Wine lovers know that a glass of Sangiovese brings out the best in a meal – especially when it’s hyper local.
On Saturday, March 18, we’ll host a community-style dinner complete with a variety of savory wines crafted by the neighboring Gianni Buonomo Vintners.
Beginning at 6:30 p.m., wine enthusiasts will cozy up for conversation at a long community table on our enchanting patio – complete with a dazzling fire pit and twinkling string lights. Gianni Buonomo Vintners winemaker Keith Rolle will present the dinner guests with carefully selected glasses of wine alongside each course. Rolle will explain why he chose each wine to perfectly complement the local flavors of our handcrafted and homemade delectable dishes.
“We wanted Keith to bring an array of local wines for guests to discover and enjoy,” said Sandy Hanshaw, owner of The Wine Pub. “Not only will guests learn the secrets to wine pairing, but they’ll be introduced to an exquisite winery right in their own backyard.”
Located on Newport Avenue in the heart of Ocean Beach, Gianni Buonomo Vintners produces a limited production of sophisticated, food-friendly wines. Owner Rolle grows and harvests the grapes in eastern Washington then brings them down to San Diego to transform them into refined wines.
Tickets for Wine & Dine with Gianni Buonomo Vintners are $59 per person and include a five-course dinner complete with six wine tastings and gourmet food. Reservations are required and tickets are available for purchase below.

Join us on Sunday, September 18, 2016 from 5-7 p.m., on the patio, as host Fernando of Lomita Winery will be doing a tasting but also talking to us about how crushing wines works. We will taste five wines: Discreto Blanco White Blend, Cursi Grenache Rose, Discreto Encanto Red Blend, Tinto de la Hacienda, Pagano. We will also offer glass/bottle sales in addition to the tasting! Tickets are $25, be sure to get yours today. A portion of proceeds will benefit Corazon de Vida, a non-profit providing resources for orphaned and abandoned children in the Valle.
Sorry, we are sold out for this event.
Attention Very Important Pooches (VIPs) of San Diego: it’s time to prepare for the go-to doggie event of the year at The Wine Pub, which raises funds for Canine Companions for Independence.
On Sunday, August 14, from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m., The Wine Pub will roll out the red carpet (literally) and paparazzi will photograph dozens of San Diego’s socialite pups and their humans. Four-legged friends in tuxes and dresses will enjoy an evening of pampering at The Pub, complete with bottle-bowl service and gourmet doggie treats, including dishes of chicken and wild rice, “pupsicles” and homemade, all-natural dog treats.
“As a puppy owner, I know exactly how much joy four-legged friends bring into our lives,” said Sandy Hanshaw, owner of The Wine Pub. “Our patio is dog-friendly all year round, but for one day we wanted to give our pups center stage and raise money for a local organization that pairs people with disabilities with loyal and loving companions.”
The Oceanside-based organization, Canine Companions for Independence, enhances the lives of people with disabilities by providing highly trained assistance dogs and ongoing support to ensure life-saving human-pup partnerships, free of charge. The Wine Pub chose Canine Companions as its 2016 Woofer Wednesday beneficiary and has donated $250 to date by encouraging customers to dine in with their dogs every Wednesday and giving 10 percent of each check to the dog-friendly nonprofit.
No tickets are required for the VIP event – just a fancy dress code.
On Saturday, July 30, from 8:30 p.m. – 10:30 p.m., The Pub will screen a classic wine documentary, Blood into Wine. The early 2010 film follows two characters navigating the transition from rock legend to wine connoisseur with mystery and humor in Northern Arizona.
Accompanying the film, The Wine Pub Chef Malissa Sorsby will custom-create truffle popcorn: butter popcorn drizzled with hand-made, decadent chocolate sauce for a specialty snack unique to this event.
“Outdoor movies have become a staple in the Point Loma community during summertime, each offering something special and unique,” says Sandy Hanshaw, owner of The Wine Pub. “We’re staying true to the roots of who we are: a wine-loving, community-cultivating place where friends can get together for a laid-back evening in their neighborhood.”
The Pub encourages movie-goers to bring their own chairs, blankets and pillows to foster an event less like a restaurant and more like a night at home — but with table service. Guests can expect to enjoy the enviable San Diego summer evening under the stars with friends, neighbors and wine.
$20 tickets include one glass of wine or draft beer, gourmet popcorn and patio seats for the feature film.
Join us on The Wine Pub patio for a relaxing one-hour session of Vinyasa yoga and enjoy a refreshing glass of wine after. You bring the mat, we’ll bring the wine!
The cost to register is $20 which includes a one-hour Vinyasa yoga session, with a registered Yoga teacher, and a glass of wine to follow. All Yogi’s welcome! Sign-up today because spots are limited.
School’s out, and students aren’t the only ones rejoicing. We know you work hard all year long, and we want to kick off summer with you.
Please join fellow Point Loma and Ocean Beach teachers, faculty and staff at The Wine Pub on Thursday, June 18 for a special teachers all-night Happy Hour and live music by Ryan Brolliar, a Point Loma High teacher himself.
If you ask The Wine Pub, five years in business calls for multiple celebrations. This November, Point Loma’s favorite place to wine, dine and pamper their pups launches a month of festivities in conjunction with the community that has been loyal and supportive of the locally-owned business for half a decade and counting.
“We’ve felt the love from this community for half-a-decade now, and this is how we want to say thank you,” says owner Sandy Hanshaw. “We’re only here because of their unwavering support. We want our community to know they have as much of a role in the success of The Wine Pub as we do — and that we cherish that.”
San Diegans can look forward to:
- All November, Share and Win: Friends of the local restaurant can submit their most memorable moments at The Wine Pub for a chance to win a wine that has been a customer-favorite for the past five years.
- November 7, 6-8 p.m., Champagne toast: Friends and family can join The Wine Pub owner and staff for live music on the patio, a birthday cake and a champagne toast to five years in Point Loma.
- November 12, 6-8 p.m., VIP (Very Important Pooches): The Wine Pub rolls out the red carpet (literally) for all the pups that have graced the patio with their presence. Photo opportunities and bottle service will be provided to these VIPs while all proceeds benefit the local dog rescue organization, Furry Fosters.
- November 17, 6-8 p.m., Heroes of Point Loma: The Wine Pub invites friends and family for a celebration recognizing the local heroes and their remarkable impacts on the Point Loma community.

As you may or may not know, I was in chemotherapy treatment for stage three breast cancer last year. My husband, Andy, has a passion for bicycling and we decided to give back in a way that means something to us. Alas, Bike for Boobs was born. With your help, last year we raised more than $6,000 for the Breast Cancer Fund; an organization dedicated to the prevention of cancer through the elimination of dangerous chemicals in our environment including the food we eat, the beauty products we use, the detergent we wash our clothes with and more. Now I am cancer free, living a great life and feeling grateful for every day. Click here to learn more about Bike for Boobs and join us for this momentous event on October 26.
