Wine lovers know that a glass of Sangiovese brings out the best in a meal – especially when it’s hyper local.
On Saturday, March 18, we’ll host a community-style dinner complete with a variety of savory wines crafted by the neighboring Gianni Buonomo Vintners.
Beginning at 6:30 p.m., wine enthusiasts will cozy up for conversation at a long community table on our enchanting patio – complete with a dazzling fire pit and twinkling string lights. Gianni Buonomo Vintners winemaker Keith Rolle will present the dinner guests with carefully selected glasses of wine alongside each course. Rolle will explain why he chose each wine to perfectly complement the local flavors of our handcrafted and homemade delectable dishes.
“We wanted Keith to bring an array of local wines for guests to discover and enjoy,” said Sandy Hanshaw, owner of The Wine Pub. “Not only will guests learn the secrets to wine pairing, but they’ll be introduced to an exquisite winery right in their own backyard.”
Located on Newport Avenue in the heart of Ocean Beach, Gianni Buonomo Vintners produces a limited production of sophisticated, food-friendly wines. Owner Rolle grows and harvests the grapes in eastern Washington then brings them down to San Diego to transform them into refined wines.
Tickets for Wine & Dine with Gianni Buonomo Vintners are $59 per person and include a five-course dinner complete with six wine tastings and gourmet food. Reservations are required and tickets are available for purchase below.

Celebrating seven years by spotlighting amazing Ocean Beach & Point Loma residents
Seven years ago, The Wine Pub opened its doors as the go-to place for neighbors to gather, unwind and cheers.
On Monday, November 7, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., we’ll dedicate our seventh anniversary to five community-nominated heroes who make Point Loma and Ocean Beach shine.
“Celebrating our anniversary only seems right when honoring the heroes that make this community a desirable place to live, work and play,” says Sandy Hanshaw, owner of The Wine Pub. “We love this neighborhood because it’s full of folks that fly under the radar, quietly making our lives easier and our community better.”
The Wine Pub invites families, friends and pooches of its five heroes to celebrate under the stars. Guests will enjoy wine, dessert and heartfelt speeches while we blow out a candle in the shape of a number seven.
This year’s Homegrown Community Heroes include:
Devon Lantry, Ocean Beach resident, for trailblazing a web of community gardens where he works and lives in Ocean Beach. When he isn’t telling inspiring stories of local nonprofits and businesses, he is growing all types of vegetables to provide free food to those in need. He’s inspired others in the community to create community gardens.
Nicole Burgess, Ocean Beach resident, for her diligent work to make the community a bike and pedestrian haven. She has strong determination to improve roads for two-wheeled travelers on Wabaska Drive that will make the commute for children biking to Dana Middle School, and commuters heading to and from downtown, safer and more accessible.
Stasi McAteer, Ocean Beach resident, for opening her home and building relationships with everyone around her. Stasi is instrumental in organizing the local Buy Nothing Project, where neighbors connect through a gift economy, and hosts Friday Family Meals at her house to gather the community and cultivate local friendships.
Tony Jeffreys, Point Loma resident, for dedicating his life to keeping the community of Point Loma safe. Tony has spent decades working for the San Diego Fire Department in Point Loma at Station 22.

The “crush” is the first step in turning grapes into wine! Since fall is “crush” season, we started our own crush party last year at The Wine Pub! Join us on Sunday, September 18, 2016 from 5-7 p.m., on the patio, as host Fernando of Lomita Winery will be doing a tasting but also talking to us about how crushing wines works. Tickets are $25, be sure to get yours today. A portion of proceeds will benefit Corazon de Vida, a non-profit providing resources for orphaned and abandoned children in the Valle.
Sorry, we are sold out for this event.
Attention Very Important Pooches (VIPs) of San Diego: it’s time to prepare for the go-to doggie event of the year at The Wine Pub, which raises funds for Canine Companions for Independence.
On Sunday, August 14, from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m., The Wine Pub will roll out the red carpet (literally) and paparazzi will photograph dozens of San Diego’s socialite pups and their humans. Four-legged friends in tuxes and dresses will enjoy an evening of pampering at The Pub, complete with bottle-bowl service and gourmet doggie treats, including dishes of chicken and wild rice, “pupsicles” and homemade, all-natural dog treats.
“As a puppy owner, I know exactly how much joy four-legged friends bring into our lives,” said Sandy Hanshaw, owner of The Wine Pub. “Our patio is dog-friendly all year round, but for one day we wanted to give our pups center stage and raise money for a local organization that pairs people with disabilities with loyal and loving companions.”
The Oceanside-based organization, Canine Companions for Independence, enhances the lives of people with disabilities by providing highly trained assistance dogs and ongoing support to ensure life-saving human-pup partnerships, free of charge. The Wine Pub chose Canine Companions as its 2016 Woofer Wednesday beneficiary and has donated $250 to date by encouraging customers to dine in with their dogs every Wednesday and giving 10 percent of each check to the dog-friendly nonprofit.
No tickets are required for the VIP event – just a fancy dress code.
