Now Offering Pasta Making Classes!

Image may contain: 1 person, sitting, table and indoorThe Wine Pub’s Melissa Stoltz is helping residents connect with the tradition of pasta making–all with wine of course.

Melissa will host a small, intimate pasta making class. Attendees will arrive at 5 p.m. to make large batches of pasta with ingredients straight from The Wine Pub’s kitchen. After this 2-2.5 hour class, Melissa will cook up everyone’s pasta to enjoy with wine on the restaurant’s intimate patio. This class is perfect for a date night or girl’s night out!

Workshop includes 1 pound of take-home pasta, recipe cards, and a light pasta dinner made by chef/instructor. Wine Pub wine available during workshop as well as food.

Stoltz’s pasta passion was born after a day perusing Barnes & Nobles’ cooking book collection. After spending months making pasta for her daughter and boyfriend at home (and loving it!), she was offered a job at Cucina Urbana. Working hours underneath the kitchen’s pasta girl, Melissa was hooked. She spends hours every day producing close to 60 pounds of pasta a day. According to Melissa, “it’s more about the experience of making pasta, meeting people and sharing a meal.”

Join us for our Sixth Annual “Bike for Boobs!”

Many people look to make a difference every October for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but for one local survivor, making a difference is a task she focuses on all year round. Today, Sandy Hanshaw, owner of The Wine Pub and Coffee Hub & Café, announces the return of her iconic Bike for Boobs.

On Sunday, October 14, Bike for Boobs invites community members to grab their bikes and join dozens of supporters in pink for an afternoon rendezvous to support the fight against breast cancer. For the first time ever, the fundraising event is donating all proceeds to Encinitas-based charity, Shades of Pink Foundation, and adding a 20-mile road ride.

The extended road ride is set to commence at 2 p.m.   The leisurely group ride around Shelter Island begins at 3 p.m. then all are invited back to The Wine Pub for drinks, light appetizers, live music, an auction and more.

“Receiving the devastating news that you’re fighting for your life is dire and learning the financial strain to go through treatment only adds to the devastation,” said Hanshaw. “For our sixth year, I wanted to help those in financial distress right here at home. Shades of Pink Foundation is truly the perfect fit.”

Folks planning to join the ride against breast cancer, pull out your pink tutus and visors and reserve your spot below with a suggested $25 donation. The Wine Pub also accepts donations to the Shades of Pink Foundation from those who cannot attend.

For those interested in sponsoring the event, please contact Sandy Hanshaw at or view our sponsorship guide here.

Online registration is now closed. Walk-up donations/registrations are still welcome!

The Valle comes to The Wine Pub

The Wine Pub Unveils Meet the Baja Winemaker Series
Maciel Winery, Villa Montefiore scheduled first to bring Valle de Guadalupe to Point Loma Village

Valle de Guadalupe is home to some of the most untouched and spectacular wineries on the coast. To share the charm of Baja-made wines without leaving Point Loma, The Wine Pub invites renowned wine experts and San Diegans to the local patio for its newest series, Meet the Baja Winemaker.

The guided, four-course dinner begins on April 12 with Cava Maciel winery’s Jorge Maciel and followed by Villa Montefiori winery’s Paolo Paoloni on July 31 at 6:30 p.m. Both wineries were discovered on The Wine Pub’s group trips to Valle de Guadalupe, and quickly favored. Food will be prepared by The Wine Pub’s resident chef and owner of Baja California restaurant Mancha de Castro, Sergio Castro.

“The more I travel across the border and get to know these winemakers, my list of experts to invite to The Pub grows longer,” said Owner of The Wine Pub, Sandy Hanshaw. “It’s always been important to me to provide our guests the opportunity to get up close and personal with renowned experts, especially within my favorite wine country. When we brought in our culinary gem who happens to be from Baja, I knew it was time to launch this series.”

Reserve your below spot to any of the upcoming Meet the Baja Winemaker dinners. Each experience includes a four-course dinner paired with wines by Baja California’s finest. Tickets are $65 a person. Reservations are required. Tax and gratuity are not included.

June Menu and Happy Hour Specials

You will notice the addition of one of my favorite fruits to the menu this month… watermelon! Our salad special is a spring mix with watermelon, pecans and Gorgonzola cheese in a honey grapefruit vinaigrette. If you’re looking for something refreshing and light during happy hour, our watermelon and feta salad is a great start.

I am really excited about our June appetizer special, too. The pita flatbread comes with marinated heirloom tomatoes, prosciutto, goat cheese and basil pesto. It has been very popular so far. Of course, if you are just stopping by for dessert, a glass of port wine and our kiwi vanilla cupcake is a delicious way to end the evening.

Stop in and enjoy a delicious, hand crafted, meal. As always, if you have any suggestions or comments, we would love to hear from you.

What is Terroir and why is it important?

Learn, and taste, how environmental factors in certain regions impact the taste of our wines!

Terroir is a French word derived from “terre,” meaning land and “describes not what the grower and farmer do in (or to) the vineyard, but rather what the vineyard gives them in the most basic sense. For example, the soils, sub-soils, topography, exposure and all aspects of temperature along with seasonal rainfall, fog and other climatic conditions.” Learn, and taste, how the terroir of the wine you drink affects your experience in the glass.

Our June “Taste of Terroir” event has been postponed. Stay tuned for more information. If you are interested in learning more about the wines in Guadalupe Valley, register for our June wine tour event by clicking here.
