What is Terroir and why is it important?

Learn, and taste, how environmental factors in certain regions impact the taste of our wines!

Terroir is a French word derived from “terre,” meaning land and “describes not what the grower and farmer do in (or to) the vineyard, but rather what the vineyard gives them in the most basic sense. For example, the soils, sub-soils, topography, exposure and all aspects of temperature along with seasonal rainfall, fog and other climatic conditions.” Learn, and taste, how the terroir of the wine you drink affects your experience in the glass.

Our June “Taste of Terroir” event has been postponed. Stay tuned for more information. If you are interested in learning more about the wines in Guadalupe Valley, register for our June wine tour event by clicking here.

From Frankie and LuLu, Official Wine Pub Pooches

Hi fellow pups and animal lovers! We’ve been enjoying these nice long evenings with refreshing walks down the path. We sure do enjoy meeting new friends on the path! But, of course, not as much as we enjoy the couches on the patio after our walk!

We wanted to give a special “bark-out” to the San Diego County Bar Association Animal Law Section! They were a wonderful group who stopped by the patio celebrating their love for animals last Woofer Wednesday!

And don’t forget to bring your owner on Thursday and Friday nights for live music on the patio!

Woof Woof,
Frankie & LuLu

News and Notes From Sandy Hanshaw, Owner

Happy Spring! It’s another fun month here at the Pub. We just took our second trip down to Guadalupe Valley this weekend. Our last event was so popular, we are took over 20 people on this trip. I hope you’ll join us for our next trip in May. Click here to learn more about our May trip. Andy and I were just down in the Valle for a weekend trip, wine tasting, and we love the Valle!

I hope you’ll join us for the numerous events we have listed for April. Additionally, it sure is so nice to have live music back on the patio! View our music line up for the month of April.

I want to share a very special event we have coming up in May. The San Diego Bicycle Coalition is hosting a fundraiser at the Pub called, “An Evening With Bob Roll: Meet & Greet and Tour of California Race Preview!” on Friday, May 13th, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. As some of you know, The Tour of California – America’s premiere professional cycling race is coming to San Diego and we couldn’t be more excited! The race is set to start right here in San Diego on May 15th.

Bob is a former professional cyclist, author, and television sports commentator. Andy and I had a chance to meet Bob, pictured above, and he’s wonderful! This fundraising reception for the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition will feature Bob’s unique insights to racing and he’ll preview the big race for those in attendance. Space will be limited to the first 75 registrants so don’t wait! Click here to buy your tickets!

I look forward to seeing you at the Pub soon!

This Month’s Specials From Malissa Sorsby, Executive Chef

Spring is a nice time of year to check back in with that New Year’s Resolution to eat healthier! Our specials, along with our menu, are selected to not only match the season but to offer the most fresh, and organic, food available for that time of year.

This month our specials include a tomato basil soup and a spring mix salad with spicy pickled green beans, radishes, cherry tomato, topped with Parmesan cheese and lemon balsamic vinaigrette. If you’re feeling like you need a snack before dinner try our chicken lettuce wraps with sautéed veggies and citrus Hoisin.

I always love our popular pasta specials! This month our pasta special is a Caprese lasagna roll with marinara sauce. If you’re looking for that special dessert to follow, or if it’s just a dessert night, try our lemon poppy cupcake with raspberry cream cheese frosting.

Did you know we have a Gluten Free Menu? Last week a visitor came in with their dog and said, “thank you for having a dog friendly patio and a gluten free menu, there aren’t many places that have both!” We do our best to accommodate everyone at the Pub!

From The Kitchen: February Specials

I’m excited to tell you about our delicious monthly specials. Our soup this month is the highly requested vegetarian chili! Last year, we made our chili available vegetarian or with natural certified ground Angus beef and we’ll be doing the same again this year. Don’t forget to pair your bowl of chili with a side of our delicious homemade cornbread for an absolutely hearty, and warming, meal.

Also, this month for Happy Hour we have kept some well-loved favorites like our cream cheese stuffed jalapenos wrapped in prosciutto, as well as our kale and artichoke dip with grilled levain (a whole wheat sourdough) bread.

We have also added new treats, my personal favorite snack, kalamata tapanade and goat cheese crostinis, finished with fresh lemon zest! We have also added a chilled lemon orzo salad with artichoke hearts and sundried tomato, a perfect compliment to a sunny Happy Hour on our patio. Whether you are coming in for a full meal, or just a light snack before heading home, we are always so happy to have the opportunity to create delicious food for you. Cheers!
