This month we have an exciting persimmon and sweet potato soup, sure to warm your spirits on the chilliest of nights. For an Appetizer, try our grilled crostinis with our roasted bell pepper and cheddar fondue! If you are looking for something heartier, look no further than our Entree Special this month: Boneless Chicken Breast stuffed with mushroom pate, spinach and brie served in a creamy tomato basil sauce. Our sauteed veggies have all the flavor to remind you why broccolini really is delicious, and maybe carrots aren’t so bad. Or if its the sweet tooth in you that needs a treat, our cinnamon plum cupcake with vanilla bean frosting is bursting with fresh fruit.

Thank you for celebrating five years with us!

Thanks everyone for celebrating our fifth anniversary with us last month. What fun we had! Between the anniversary party, the VIP (Very Important Pooches) party and our Point Loma Hero recognition party, we created a month of memories to enjoy together. Thank you for helping us reach this milestone; we couldn’t have done it without your tremendous support for the past five years. Here’s to the next five together!

As you know, we like to give back – and with your help we raised significant money for some very special causes. At our second annual Bike for Boobs we raised almost $9,000; a great increase from last year. As a breast cancer survivor, this hits near and dear to my heart and I’m overwhelmed by the community’s support. Our beneficiary, the Breast Cancer Fund, will continue their mission of exposing and eliminating the environmental causes of breast cancer through education and advocacy thanks to you.

Additionally, The Wine Pub partnered with Kristen Cusato, KUSI reporter and spokeswoman for the Alzheimer’s Association to raise money and raise Alzheimer’s awareness. The event, Music, Memories and Merlot, was filled with just that and everyone had a wonderful time supporting another cause very special to The Wine Pub.

Heroes of Point Loma – Celebrating everyday heroes in Point Loma and Ocean Beach

If you joined us for our Heroes of Point Loma party, you already know we recognized four community-nominated everyday heroes for their daily work to make Ocean Beach and Point Loma the communities we love and cherish. Congratulations to Matt Kalla, Martha Phillips, James Earnest and Kristin Garrett for all you continue to give to our communities. We look forward to seeing you back at The Wine Pub again soon!

Happy Holidays – Try these Wine Pub treats before 2015

Happy Holidays! As the cooler weather moves in, come warm your hands around our fire pit and enjoy a steaming bowl of French onion soup. If you’re vegetarian, our delicious roasted cauliflower and English cheddar soup is sure to satisfy. Our appetizer this month is a beer-braised pork lettuce wrap; started with Asian flavors followed by some beer, because it is the perfect weather for Porter!

Don’t forget to take a break in the hustle and bustle of the holidays and enjoy a spiked eggnog cupcake – or take some to share with your family and friends on-the-go.

Please join us this month for an event very near and dear to our hearts: The Second Annual Bike for Boobs fundraiser on October 26. At 4 p.m. we’ll lead a casual bike ride around Shelter Island followed by a party on The Wine Pub patio. As you may or may not know, I was in chemotherapy treatment for stage three breast cancer last year. My husband, Andy, has a passion for bicycling and we decided to give back in a way that means something to us. Alas, Bike for Boobs was born. With your help, last year we raised more than $6,000 for the Breast Cancer Fund; an organization dedicated to the prevention of cancer through the elimination of dangerous chemicals in our environment including the food we eat, the beauty products we use, the detergent we wash our clothes with and more. Angel is a little 1 year old terrier. She is shy at first, but once she’s comfortable with you, she has a very sweet disposition and eager to please attitude. She is coming along nicely with her basic training and is getting along with all of the other pups at the ranch.

October Art Happy Hour – “Autumn Bloom”

Get your creative juices flowing with a painting class paired with Happy Hour!

On October 25 from 4:30 – 7:30 p.m., The Wine Pub hosts its monthly Art Happy Hour. For $25 per person or $40 per couple, you get a three-hour painting class with all materials included and step-by-step instruction from a professional art teacher. You also get the happy hour pricing on food and beverages until 6 p.m. This class is for everyone — no experience is required.

Support the Bike Coalition; Buy New Belgium Beer

We love bicycles and we love beer, so this month we’re drinking to donate. With every New Belgium beer you drink at The Wine Pub in September, we’ll donate 50 cents to the San Diego Bike Coalition.

For even more bicycles and New Belgium brews, roll to Golden Hill Park on Saturday, September 27 for Tour De Fat. The annual carnival of bikes, beer and bemusement raises thousands of dollars each year for two local bicycling nonprofits: The San Diego Bike Coalition and the San Diego Mountain Bike Association.

September News from the Kitchen

September has arrived and with it some treats from the kitchen. Come to The Wine Pub this month to enjoy the taste of September!

  • We’ve included a great blend of heirlooms on our house salad with strawberries, in the caprese salad and on our happy hour menu.
  • Our delicious corn chowder comes from locally grown corn for a refreshing taste bursting with jalapeno, sweet onion, garlic and herbs.
  • The entrée special brings back the ever-popular barbecue pulled chicken in our spin on enchiladas—don’t forget our chicken is certified organic! Even if you’re not the biggest fan of veggies, the corn salsa on the side is amazing.
